Meet Akayaa Atule | A Band Leader And African Dance Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Akayaa Atule and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was born and raise in Ghana West Africa. I grew up with music in my village. My Father was a master drummer in my village/family. So I was introduce to music as an early age. So when I went to college I decided to master in Music and Dance. I move here in the USA about 40 years ago. I am a Mother of two beautiful Children. I am a dance instructor at SDSU, City College and SDSCPA.
I also teach for Nor profit Organizations here in San Diego. I am so proud of having a Band here in San Diego, because we’re very unique. My music is called High Life Music. Music that makes you move your body and brings Happiness into your day/Life. We sing the songs in five different Languages, music is a Universal language.
The challenges was trying to put the Band together. Then have to deal with band members with different Personalities… But that did not STOP ME..
For the past ten years, the Band members that I have now are an Amazing people! They are like a family to me :))
I would the world to know about me and my Band, that We’re the only Band here in San Diego that specialize in that kind of music. We ROCK!! I would like to travel and share more of my music with people in the USA. Thank you!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
