We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, what inspires you?
The most inspirational aspects in my life are Mother Nature’s natural beauty, animal life, classical architecture, the six senses, and the Wonders of the World.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is focused on custom residential designs, artistic and botanical themed gardens, the integration of interiors and exteriors, floral artistry, and event staging. I strive to emulate how flora and fauna occur in nature, while also focusing on the six senses to provide enchanting atmospheres. I believe the exterior of one’s home should be complementary to the people who live within, so every design is tailored to the individual homeowners. I take note of their personalities, the way they use and organize their spaces, and the types of decor they employ. For commissioned floral artistry and event staging, I pay particular attention to client’s wishes to create products that exceed expectations.

After 17 years of being self-employed, I have gained invaluable experience in both business and life. Starting a business straight out of college was one of the most challenging endeavors I have encountered. I have been able to build upon myself and business by learning from both my mistakes and successes along the way. Countless nights have been spent working from home, and at this point, it is impossible to calculate the amount of time spent on job sites mastering my craft and implementation abilities. Being able to accept constructive criticisms and evolve with clients throughout a project are a couple of my biggest strengths.

Along the way, I have learned that detailed documentation of objectives, organization of accounts, and straightforward proposals and contracts are necessary for successful projects and inspiring results. Furthermore, keeping a tidy office, workspace, and job site are crucial to delivering extraordinary results.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in San Diego County is both magical and diverse. From the ocean to the valleys and deserts, the different terrain and microclimates encountered are phenomenal. I enjoy introducing my friends and family to all the tourist traps such as Old Town, Little Italy, Old Del Mar, the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, and all of the gorgeous beaches along the coastline, along with the inland deserts such as Anza-Borrego. Balboa Park is one of my favorite destinations in the city, boasting beautiful architecture and specimen plants. Southern California is also home to some incredible boutique and wholesale nurseries, with Walter Andersen’s being one of my top pics for retail selections. Quick trips to Los Angeles and Palm Springs provide all sorts of opportunities for entertainment and shopping as well. The seemingly endless selection of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues are impressive, with Born and Raised being one of my favorite steakhouses in town, along with all the other Consortium Holdings locations and the many Cohn Group restaurants around the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, Michael Wood and Linda Durant, were the biggest supporters of my passion for construction, landscaping, and floral artistry, both as a child and throughout my college education at the University of Florida. My early mentors, Mike Clark and Brad Maassen, played a crucial role in helping me start my own business straight out of college, and provided several years of professional guidance, as well as priceless real world experience in the residential design and construction sector. Most recently, my dear friend, Katie Zanardi, has been coordinating efforts to take operations to the next level through business and marketing guidance. Last but not least, a special thank you to all of the clients who have entrusted me to implement their visions and provided the referrals that have kept us busy for over 15 years.
