We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Here at The Firm, we have a “Get Sh*t Done!” mentality when it comes to doing business. More of a saying rather than a quote really, but a saying that perfectly captures the kind of hard working team we have here. We use this saying so much, we have a neon sign of it behind my desk! In an industry that is almost entirely referral based, we pride ourselves on upholding a certain reputation of diligence and efficiency in getting these deals closed. At the end of the day, what it boils down to is so simple. Make a plan, stick to it, and get it done! There’s thousands of agents in the Coachella Valley, but what separates the good agents from bad, is a dedicated work ethic. If you’re not going to put in the work, this probably isn’t the business for you.
What should our readers know about your business?
One of my biggest passions since getting into the real estate business, has become buying old, worn down buildings and turning them into cool hang out spots throughout the desert. As a Coachella Valley native, I can confidently say this is the most hustle and bustle I’ve seen in this town in my 36 years of being here. Being able to be at the forefront of developing these buildings in my own hometown is such an awesome feeling. What sets my team and I apart is our creative work environment and strong emphasis on company culture. We went from a small, lackluster office just off the main drag of Downtown Palm Springs, to an over 20,000 square foot building off HWY-111, covered with colorful murals, fun pop-art, and an awesome energy from the agents we’ve acquired. As many of you know, getting into this business is far from easy, and there’s a big learning curve in the beginning stages of building your foundation. You quickly learn along the way though, that it’s not always what you know, but who you know. Since I was born and raised here, I was able to utilize my connections and sphere of influence as much as I could. This is crucial when you’re starting out! There’s a lot of information, and it can be super intimidating at first glance. Find a mentor, but more importantly, find one that is a good fit for you and how you want to do business. You will pick up little bits and pieces from many different people in life, but eventually, you’ll find what works best for you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Showing people the beauty of the desert is one of my favorite pastimes. It may be a small town, but there’s so much to do and so much to see. Downtown Palm Springs has some of the best restaurants and trendy bars in the Coachella Valley. Some of my favorites include Tac / quila, Tropicale, PS Underground, and El Hefe if you’re looking for a more lively crowd. For those who enjoy more of a craft cocktail, laidback speakeasy vibe, my go-to spots are usually Seymore’s, Truss and Twine, Paul Bar, and Tailor Shop. During our spring season, you can usually catch me at Coachella Festival or any of the hotel pool parties that happen off the downtown strip. Sunday’s usually look like a trip to Wilma and Frieda’s or FARM for brunch, and then maybe a visit to the Living Desert Zoo of the Palm Springs Tram for some cool sites. If you find yourself further down the valley towards Palm Desert, we have an amazing strip called El Paseo filled with high end fashion stores and some upscale dining options.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A successful entrepreneur is nothing without a solid support system to back him up. I would be remiss if I didn’t give a proper shout out to my family and teammates that have supported me every step of the way. First and foremost, a shout out to my amazing wife, Christy Holstege, who is currently in the running for State Assembly, previously worked as the Mayor of Palm Springs, and is most importantly the mother of our healthy two-year old son, Aden. Her tenacity and passion for what she does is truly admirable, and is what inspires me to keep the same momentum in my line of work everyday. Secondly, to my brother Josh Gilbert and life-long friend and right hand business partner Joel Handshuh. With their help, we were able to launch The Firm Capital Group this year, which is our newest branch of the business that has allowed me to fully tap into the investor side of things. Last but not certainly not least, a huge shoutout to my entire team at The Firm Commercial. We’ve cultivated such an amazing crew of hard working individuals whose goals and aspirations align perfectly with our core values. Loving the team that you work with is so important. It’s what makes you want to come into work everyday!
