We had the good fortune of connecting with Abrina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abrina, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
There’s this Bible verse that I try and use as a daily affirmation “I can do all things in Christ Jesus who strengthens me,” it’s just a reminder I can do anything I set my mind to. I also try and remember I am stronger than I think I am and I can handle anything.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m most proud of the fact that I never gave up. I started messing around with music, in and out of studios, doing shows ever since I was a teenager. It’s been a long and tiresome road with a lot of highs and lows. I actually stepped away from music for two years because I found myself extremely unhappy. Sometimes your dreams can turn into ur nightmare and that’s what started to happen to me. But…I ended up falling back in love with music again and found myself creating again, and came back refreshed and more focused then ever. In the end I’m thankful for the hardships and hard lessons because it made me a much better artist and business woman. It also just built a stronger and more resilient version of myself. I try and block out outside noise and negativity and every day affirm positivity, it’s extremely important to being successful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I live in La now but I was born and raised in San Diego, and am back home very often. I need my breaks from LA for sure. My favorite place in SD is Balboa Park, I’m a nerd for museums but I also just find it a very calming place. When I was young I did junior theatre summer camps there so it’s always been my place pretty much. Besides that I’m a very big beach person. I love going to the beach in Del Mar or I’ll go to Torrey Pines. San Diego is a city of really great food, there’s a lot of places I love out there but there’s one thing specifically. Since I don’t permanently live in SD anymore there’s always one thing I have to get when I’m in town and that’s Mexican food. Of course SD has the best Mexican food in the country and I’m always missing it. Roberto’s forever!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My amazing and supportive big Mexican family! Just them alone can pack out a show for me and they’ve done it many times. I’m very blessed to have the most amazing family.
