Meet Davis Price | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Davis Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Davis, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Making people smile and laugh is what makes me happy. I know it’s really cheesy, but it’s true. Being a Photographer it’s my job to make people happy and to put a smile on the clients face. I love making people feel confident. There’s something so special about showing someone photos you’ve taken of them and them loving the photos. I love being able to show people the way that I see them through my lens. It’s one the best feelings in the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love doing portrait photography. From working with different brands, shooting behind the scenes for music videos, and shooting artists and their album covers. I love meeting and working with new creatives and making their ideas come to life.
Something I’m proud of was a few years ago I won an Art Contest at my College and I got my Art hung up in a Gallery. It wasn’t that moment that was proud but what had happened before that. I had to select 2 photographs to enter into this contest. My Professor was going around and helping students select which photos they should submit. There was a specific photo my Photography Professor wanted me to pick, but I really didn’t want to submit it. I had told him that I wanted to select that photo and he told me if I did, I would lose the contest because the photo was “Too posed” and that it “looked too much like a catalog” and went on saying it wasn’t a good piece. He told me he was one of the 5 judges to decide which pieces got selected for the Art Gallery, so if I chose that, I would not have his vote. So what did I do? I selected the photo I wanted. I always make sure that whenever I post, or submit photos I choose the photos I feel are my best work, and that I’m most proud of. Turns out all the judges except for him loved my photograph, so I won the contest and he had to hang it up in his Art Gallery. He had to stare at it for months until there was another Art Contest.
It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today. It’s taken so much time, effort and all of my energy. One of the biggest things is social media will convince you that you need a certain aesthetic in order to be a great photographer. I think that’s the biggest lie and you would be doing a disservice to the world, yourself, and art in general if you tried to put yourself into a certain mold. To be a great artist means pushing yourself creatively and not fitting into the mold. It’s about pushing yourself. So what if your feed doesn’t match perfectly, it’s your art. Every photograph should be edited based upon what you want emotion or what you want to depict our of it, it should not be based off of if it fits the mold. I think what set’s me apart is this exactly, my style. I love having more than one style and to be able to create new ones.
At the end of the day it’s important to put out work that you are proud of. Don’t change your work for anyone or try to copy another artist, or fit in a certain aesthetic. Just be your authentic self and let yourself grow as an artist.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend to Fat Sal’s! Me and my friends go there all the time and they have the best shakes, burgers and fries ever. If were going out, chances are were going shopping so going to the Grove is always a good place to do some shopping and get some food! My favorite place to go to is the Melrose Trading Post. It’s open Sunday mornings and they have the best vendors there! They have it all from jewelrey, clothes, to cool photographs, posters etc. Another fun place to check out is Good Times at Davey Wayne’s! It’s a hole in the wall club that plays 70’s music

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my friends and family with their support of my dream in becoming a photographer and their push for me as an artist to just get out there and create.
