We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Gerlitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenn, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
One simple word . . . Kindness! It was the beginning of the pandemic and we had returned to our native Canada to weather what would be a seven month storm for us personally. We were in strict lockdown along with the rest of the world, not able to visit with our loved ones

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart is Heart. I hand-craft one of a kind, greeting cards. Each card is crafted with quality materials, attention to detail and a whole lot of love. This allows me to bring a card that is really more of a keepsake than a traditional greeting card. They are full of bright colors, texture, often times interactive components and beautiful finishes. Super gorgeous and always loved and treasured by the giver and receiver.

I have recently launched a new product line that really shows my heart and was created for the sole purpose of making the world a better place. The new product is Love Nuggets and just like the name implies, they are little bits of love that are meant to be shared. You see, I try to leave EVERY single person I encounter with a smile and knowing that I appreciate them. Doesn’t matter if it is the server in a restaurant, my doctor or the security guard who you see on the way out of a sporting event. I believe that this kind of kindness goes a long way to making people feel seen, feel valued and appreciated. We have gotten so busy and distracted with our daily lives that often times people are on their phone the entire way through checking out at the super market, rushing around to their next appointment that they forget to be present and connect with the people who are taking care of them.

Love Nuggets are a really easy and fun way to make sure that they know you appreciate them. They come in a variety of different cute styles with simple messages like “Sending you smiles” or “I think you’re awesome, no cerealsly!” and they are perfect to share with anyone, the attendant at the gas station, some one who is down on their luck, a clerk in a store, or your spouse or child. Everyone could use a little extra love and kindness. You feel great giving them out and I guarantee you’ll make their day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Funny you should ask, I just had a friend in town and we had an amazing time. I LOVE the beaches, especially the dog beach on Coronado Island. We take Bella, our super sweet 12 year old Bugg (Boston Terrier x Pug cross) and our new 7 month old Harlequin Great Dane, Indiana Bones (Indie for short). The world famous San Diego Zoo & Safari Park are a must!!! The USS Midway is another really cool place to visit. We always take our guests for a drive up the iconic 101 Pacific Coast Highway and often stop in Encinitas at the Meditation Gardens.

We love to grab a bite at Swamis in North Park, great food and amazing people. Goodonya in Encinitas is always a win. Cross Street Chicken & Beer has some of the best wings we’ve had. Din Tai Fung in La Jolla makes for a wonderful meal and it’s fun to watch how they whip up those tasty little dumplings at light speed. Draft House in Mission Beach, a cold brew, an order of wings on a beautiful California day is the place to be. Right on the boardwalk, the people watching is fantastic and you can take a quick dip in the Pacific that is only steps away.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
ABSOLUTELY! The ultimate super crafter, jedi master Rose Nuñez (a.k.a. @emeraldpaperie) and the wicked, awesomesauce Carolina Mery. These two ladies are a huge part of my tribe and I can always look to them for support, input, suggestions and honest constructive criticism. Love you ladies!!!
