Meet Rebecca Nile | The Bubble Lady & Co. /Performer & Owner.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Nile and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, how do you think about risk?
Honestly, I don’t consider myself a big risk-taker. On the other hand, starting my own business was a big risk. I knew that in order to succeed, sooner than later, I needed to let go of splitting myself between several jobs and totally focusing on one. When I did that my business took off and I was available!
I moved to the States from Canada with my husband and one-year-old and no family to rely on. That was a huge risk, but it played out in ways I never could have imagined. My daughter has the best of both worlds. Canada and the U.S. and Is a happy camper. The risk turned out to be worth it!

What should our readers know about your business?
When folks ask me what I do “What is your line of work?” I tell them I’m in the Joy Business. When I describe in more detail that “I’m The Bubble Lady and have been bubbling around the Bay for the past 25 years”, one of the next questions is usually “How did you get started” I tell them the short answer is “I said Yes!” and I’ve been saying yes ever since. I am a professional actor and worked in Toronto with an equity Shakespearian company for six years. When I moved to S.F. I became a professional clown as well. I studied chemical engineering, and I’m a mom. I figure I have all the proper credentials to make my shows a little extra special. Oh, and I love my audience. Big and small I’ll hug them all!
The ability to be flexible is one of my greatest skills. Patience is another.
In my business, it is so important to ask the right questions. I offer clearly what my requirements are, and I listen to my clients. I make every booking personal. Integrity is vital.
I take care of my health, so I show up when I say I will. It’s not very easy to replace oneself if I am the only person who does what I do the way I do it.
As well as showing up at parties and events as well as schools, retirement homes, etc. as the performer, I also run the office, respond to emails, and prepare invoices. and answer the phone. I don’t have much time off, but when I want to go to a class or make an appointment, I have the ability to make my own schedule which is great!
I’ve learned to put my best foot forward, leave any worries behind, and focus on what’s happening in the moment.
My work is my teacher and I make it fun so it’s my play! I must be fully present in order to be successful. Children don’t lie, they either are having fun or they aren’t. If I’m not having fun, my audience certainly won’t be.
The laughter, smiles, and hugs I receive make my job a very rewarding one and I feel blessed.
When I have a child with me on stage, and I sense that they are feeling frightened, I ask them if they want to stay. It’s so important to honor a child and to notice how they are feeling. It’s not about me looking good. If a child tells me no. Then I let them know it’s okay, they can go back and sit down. Then I ask the audience to clap for them because that child took a step and tried something new. No matter how it works out, it’s all good!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to send a big shoutout to Louis Pearl, The Amazing Bubble Man. Also known as The Pope of Soap. He took me under his wing and offered me the opportunity, to start my career as a Bubble Artist. I already had a background as a professional actor, clown, and a Chemical Engineering degree as well as a mother. So I had the perfect credentials.
I fell in love with and married Jed Zilberberg, thus my daughter and I were able to get our green cards. I will always have deep gratitude for Jed.
My father, John Maynard, has always been my biggest support, encouraging me to go for my dreams!
My Mom, Margie Campbell, was the love and rock in my life.
My daughter, Sareesha Nile is a stable loving force, and being her mom is something I wouldn’t trade for anything else.
Mary Cosgrove, the sister I never had.
Charles Moselle is a most extraordinary musician and producer. He brought me out of my shell and I found my voice. We created musical projects together.
