Meet Tammy Kay | Master Lash Artist and Trainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy Kay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tammy, what do you attribute your success to?
This is a hard one to talk about but I would have to say doubt was the biggest drive for my ambitions.
Growing up in a strict first generation immigrant family, there was no room for an artistic or a creative career. You were expected to be a doctor, lawyer, or anything else besides an artist. I was in my second year of college before I decided to quit school to pursue my dreams of being in the beauty industry. I didn’t know exactly what services I wanted to offer but all I know was that I saw myself working with people and making them feel beautiful. I had a lot of backlash from family members and even from my own parents, but I decided to cancel all that noise and dive deep into the world of cosmetology. Even though I was such a broke student, I LOVED every minute of going to beauty school and I still keep in contact with some of my teachers.
Fast forward to 2018 was when I got certified in Classic Lash extensions and since then I haven’t stopped learning about the industry. I started training new beauty babes to start their own business and even created my own line of luxury lash supplies. This career has allowed me to make more money than friends around my age, allowed me to help young girls pursue their own success, and last but not least, has allowed me to meet so many great amazing people that have boosted my own life and mentality.
When I look back on my career and how far I’ve come, I realized the drive for my brand was the fact I know I can do anything if I put my mind to it. Ultimately, I wanted to prove everyone wrong and I wanted to show that you can succeed in any career if you truly work hard at it. You don’t need a fancy title in order to be respected by other people, everything you do should be only for you and your well being. All of those long hours and late nights are worth it because I’m doing exactly what I manifested. Younger Tammy would not even believe that she would start her own brand at the age of 25.
The last few months I’ve taken a step back from lashing clients in order to work on my brand, Hai Lash Society. I started connecting with other lash artists and built a small community of brand ambassadors. If you were to tell me that I would be a trainer along with having my own line of products, I would’ve told you that was impossible. I would teach my kids to go after what they feel like is their calling and not what society expects of you. In the end, you are going to live that life not them.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a lash extensions artist, online business owner, trainer, and forever a student to life.
The journey of building my business wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. I worked my butt off for the first few years! I would lash at a salon 4 days a week and took private clients at friend’s studio 3 days a week to build my clientele. Every step I took within the industry was so scary, I never felt safe or secure because I wanted to grow fast. I was so tired of being broke that I focused on hustling for my money.
In 2020, I faced my biggest challenge ever. I had just opened my own studio in LA, right before Covid hit, and was only able to work 4 months before we went into lockdown. I still had bills and rent to pay every month so it was definitely a struggle. Out of those dark few months, Hai Lash Society was born. I spent my time researching and testing products on myself, then on clients, before I officially launched in 2021.
I wanted to be THE lash bestie brand to all level of lash artists, by bridging the gap between high quality lash products without breaking the bank. Most lash brands on the market had an expensive price point without providing quality product, which led to my wavering client retention. I tried so many adhesives before finding the right one for my brand.
Our top selling product is our adhesive bundle, which contains one bottle of Luna Black Adhesive and Artemis Clear Adhesive. We were the first brand to market an adhesive that could last longer than 4 weeks. Our adhesives has a shelf life of up to 3 months once opened. This saved me and so many other artists money because adhesive was the first thing thrown out when we were in Covid lockdowns. Meaning you are throwing away $50-$80 a month if you don’t finish a bottle of adhesive because they all had a shelf life of 4 weeks. This allowed me to stand out from the crowd by providing quality product that can save you money and a headache.
Every product we launch is meant to target a problem that I experienced while lashing clients. Because of these arising problems, I am destined to continue to work hard to find a solution.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a homebody during the week but love to explore on the weekends. I hold a season pass to Disneyland and loves the smell of ocean air. I enjoy going to places that are pet friendly, since I have two fur babies at home, and we like to explore with them.
Some of my favorite spots to dine and drink at are the following:
Bestia, A Food Affair, Quarters Kbbq, TAO, Beauty and Essex, Javier’s, Openaire, The Little Door, Barton G the Restaurant and so many more.
I try to balance my foodie side with Pilates, cardio workouts at home, and walking my fur babies. I believe in clean eating during the week so you can reward yourself and binge on the weekends.
I don’t mind what activities I do with my loved ones, I just like to enjoy the right company.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I absolutely LOVE listening to podcasts! Over the years, each episode have revolutionized my mentality and thinking. I truly love listening to the following few shows: Boss Babe, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Lash Cast, Manifestation Babe, The Diary of a CEO by Steven Bartlett, The Mindset Mentor, Life with Marianna, Goal Digger, Online Marketing Made Easy with Amy Porterfield, and The Ramsey Show.
There are so many more podcasts you can subscribe to and they are also FREE! While you are building your own business, learn everything and as much as you can. This will really help you succeed further because you are the most important factor to your business.
Self development is an ongoing work of art, I don’t think there is ever an end goal when it comes to improving yourself.
