We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Cooper and Annelyse Demuch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abby & Annelyse, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The first and foremost reason behind starting Fever Dream was because we recognized a lack of spaces for queer women and nonbinary people. We wanted to create a safe and inclusive space for the girls, gays, and theys to feel comfortable and confident. Starting an event planning company was the logical thing to do, especially since both of us thrive when working for ourselves rather than working for other people.

At the time we started Fever Dream, we were also both looking for opportunities to be creative, develop our organizational and managerial skills, and elevate our own personal business goals. As a DJ, Abby wanted a platform to provide herself with opportunities to DJ for the queer community, and as a small-business owner, Annelyse wanted to grow her vintage shop in the queer community. A queer event planning company answered all of these desires.

What should our readers know about your business?
Fever Dream is still a relatively new business – we only started in April 2022 and have hosted three events so far. We are so proud that our first two events sold out, and our third event connected us to many new opportunities to grow. We are proud that our events are more than just events that people go to – we are building the foundation of a community.

We are a team of two with complementary skill sets and perspectives. Annelyse brings creativity, the interior design vision, and marketing strategies. Abby compliments this with organizational and planning skills and helps to execute the vision. Our desire to build genuine relationships with the individuals who attend our events sets us apart, since we want to get to know the people who join our community. We are currently working on our fourth and fifth events, and have learned a lot about taking risks, trusting each other, and how to emulate what we like about other productions.

Our brand is about creating a space that is safe for the queer women and nonbinary community. We want folks to feel comfortable at our events, since often nightlife is dominated by cis straight men and it is difficult to feel at ease in those places. It is also important to us to elevate BIPOC small businesses and artists. We want our event attendees to know they can always reach out to us with questions and concerns – we are not above anyone and we are part of the community too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first thing we’d do is check the Hot Donna’s calendar – a compilation of events for the queer women and nonbinary community. There is always a fun variety of events on the calendar, and we would add some of those to our itinerary, such as the Drag King Brunch and Pole Dance Night. We’d be sure to take them to a Hawt Mess event, a queer event production that never fails to create a magical and very fun atmosphere. We’d take them to Moonlight Rollerway’s Wednesday pride night for a fun skate night.

Restaurants we’d show them include Bacari in Silverlake and Home Restaurant in Los Feliz. On the weekend, we’d take them to the Silverlake and Los Feliz Flea Markets. (Can you tell where we hang out?)

If we’re willing to brave the traffic across LA, we’d take them to Redondo or Manhattan Beaches.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to shout-out the friends that believe in us, encourage us, and go above and beyond to support us in our business ventures. To the friends – and strangers – that buy tickets and come to all of our events – WE SEE YOU. The queer community we created is incredible and to have such supportive friends means the world.

Special recognition to the people closest to us who go above and beyond to help make sure our events run smoothly. You know who you are and we couldn’t do it without you.

We also want to shout-out each other for holding one another up while we pursue an unconventional career path.
