We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori Mistick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tori, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is from Maya Angelou: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

I find that this applies to business, raising dogs and life in general. I always try to do my best in all areas of my life. But looking back there are certain things that make me shake my head! It might have been the food I used to feed my dogs 10 years ago or how I used to write blog posts before I learned about keywords and SEO.

This quote also helps me handle my reaction to criticism online. I simply think, “oh that person just doesn’t know better yet.”

It’s my mantra for life!

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is all about helping women live their best life alongside dogs, as pet parents and petpreneurs!

Many women dream of going full time with their passion project. In 2019, I was able to quit all of my client work from my previous business to focus full time on my blog for dog moms. So far, my proudest accomplishment is being featured in The Wall Street Journal in an article about saving money on your dog’s expenses. This is an important topic because I know that saving money empowers pet parents to provide better and more consistent care for their pets.

I love that my business enables me to reach pet parents and share what I’ve learned through raising dogs for 20 years and blogging about them for 9 years. Thanks to my blog and my podcast I have access to leaders and innovators in the pet industry and I’m able to share their knowledge with my community.

Turning my blog into an income-generating business hasn’t been easy! I’m thankful to have wonderful brands to work with and a community of petpreneurs who value the experience and knowledge I have to share with them.

There’s no right way to grow a business. It’s taken me a lot of trial and error. As long as you’re coming from a position of wanting to help people, I believe someone will find value in that and you’ll be able to make it work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course we would do dog friendly things together! I love when my friends comes to visit me and bring their dogs along. Life with dogs usually starts early (at least for us!) so we would do some early morning hikes followed by coffee shop hangs. Late afternoon would be the perfect time to hit up a dog-friendly brewery. If the dogs are tired enough, I also love to sit in the park and read a book while the pups nap.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t been welcomed into the world of dog blogging 9 years ago. I started my blog, Wear Wag Repeat, as a place to document my love of style and dogs. The original tagline was “I wear it, they wag it and then we repeat!”

I quickly discovered how saturated the world of fashion blogging was even back then. But I also discovered this wonderful little corner of the internet where the dog bloggers hung out! They started commenting on my blog posts and we got to know each other. Those original comments from fellow bloggers are the reason that I pursued a career in the pet industry.
