Meet Patrick Garcia | Co-Founder of Los Gauchos

We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Los Gauchos was founded with the goal of making wine less intimidating and more approachable for all consumers, regardless of age or experience.
Up until now, wine culture has been misunderstood and under appreciated. It’s traditionally been marketed towards an older and wealthier demographic, wrongfully giving it a very pretentious stigma when it really shouldn’t be.
Purchasing wine is also not an easy decision. There’s hundreds of wines on a shelf at a given time and it can be quite overwhelming, especially when you aren’t a wine expert. However, you shouldn’t be a wine export to enjoy wine.
97% of consumers solely purchase wine off of label and price. From personal experience, this is how I’ve historically made my decisions. This really influenced our branding process – we were very intentional of how our label would speak to consumers from shelves. We really wanted to create something timeless that speaks to everyone – something right in the middle between traditional and hip – something our parents can appreciate but also something our younger friends could as well. Not traditional but not too hip either.
You don’t have to be a sommelier to enjoy wine, however, sommeliers can enjoy our wine.
Wine should be a vibey drink of choice and we’re here to lead the way on how wine culture is perceived.
We strongly believe that our approachable + unique label design, affordable price points, quality wine and strong social media presence will be what separates us from the rest.

What should our readers know about your business?
Los Gauchos is a San Diego based label with our wine harvested in Mendoza, Argentina.
Our winery is located at the foot of Los Andes mountains and our wines are made in a very artisanal manner. Our winery’s production is limited to very small batches due to the rocky soil that our vineyard sits on. All of our grapes are harvested by hand and our winemaker Juan Pablo prides himself on his minimally intrusive farming methods.
We strongly believe that our approachable + unique label design, affordable price points, quality wine and strong social media presence will be what separates us from the rest.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When we have visitors in town we give them the locals experience. You can expect for us to take you to a few of our go-to spots like Bump for empanadas and Las Olas for Margaritas. Aside from that, you can find us at Beacon’s or Swami’s beach depending on the vibe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have had an influence on what Los Gauchos has become that I won’t list everyone in fairness of accidentally leaving someone off the list. At the very least, I have to thank all of our friends, family and business partners who have supported us along the way (you know who you are).
We also have to shoutout all of the shops, bars and restaurants that have given us the opportunity of bringing Los Gauchos into their businesses and just as big of a shoutout to those businesses that wouldn’t return our emails and passed on giving us the time of day – you’re the fuel to our fire 😉
