Meet Zoë Boston | Creative, Muralist, Singer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoë Boston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zoë, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is an essential part of a life well lived. You either take risks or always wonder what could have happened if you had only gave it a shot. I believe that there is a balance to risk. It may be to your detriment to be consistently reckless but a good calculated risk is usually always worth taking!
Risk taking has played a huge roll in my life and career. If it wasn’t for the risk I took in relocating my entire life across the country and leaving everything behind, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Was it easy? Not at all. it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do because I literally came to California from upstate NY to visit, and then while visiting, Decided to never go back. My choice to take the risk in relocating for better opportunities in my career and life has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I am still reaping the benefits of my calculated risk to this day!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Zoë Boston and I am an award winning, multifaceted artist who has been creating since youth. LA born and Upstate NY raised, l now resides in Oakland, CA.
My inspirations come from God, life, love, music, dance, and more. I’m dedicated to being authentic, which in-turn, transforms my work into visual and sonic waves of passion expressed on walls and canvas, as well as through music and movement. In my emerging career, l have exhibited my art in the prestigious De Young Museum, have contributed artwork in an Emmy Award Winning documentary, and have had a recent cameo in a documentary featured on Cnn, to name a few. I have also exhibited with various galleries in the Bay Area and have created murals that have made a positive impact in my community. I continue to push my artistry In new ways that reflect my growth, my drive, and desire to be a vessel that brings more life into this realm.
I have lent my art in healing capacity in the form of paintings, murals, songs, and my stories of triumph and overcoming. I’ve created prayers in art form for some of the mothers in the BE Imaginative collective to uplift and create the essence of the lives of their sons for them to hold and cherish for many years to come. I always want to leave someone who views any of my work in a more elevated state than they were before they engaged with it.
I want to be known and remembered For never giving up and making the world a better place for being here. I want them to know that God is real..love never ends.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man! Where do I start? Lol. My friend is actually planning to visit me so let me get my thoughts together.
Okay so for breakfast, I would take my friend to sequoia diner in east Oakland on macauthur Blvd.
Then we would go lake Merritt in Oakland of course.
I’d take my friend to farmhouse kitchen in jack London square for dinner because yum!
And then a new bar opening up called “Sessions on 15th” that is featuring a custom mural I created for the space!
There’s so many other places I love to go and see and indulge in. Too many to name. Zachary’s pizza, The star, and graffiti pizza are great pizza places. Daughters Thai. I’d go see all my public art. I’d take my friend on a hike in the redwoods. Of course the studio (music). ..so many things lol

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my lovely husband Dominique Brown for being a constant support in my artistic and personal growth and development.
I want to shout out Stephen Bruce and the community from “The Art of the African Diaspora“ for being a tremendous help to the development of my artistic career.
And would like to shout out the artist and community of the Bay Area mural Program.
You have all helped to make this experience a beautiful one!
