We had the good fortune of connecting with Janel Kaden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janel, what matters most to you?

Gratitude.

It breeds happiness, fosters resilience, offers grace, permeates joy, snuffs depression, fuels hope for a brighter tomorrow… the power of perspective is mind altering. Literally.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Encinitas House of Art is similar to a restaurant, but instead of serving food, our menu is a curated selection of creative experiences for all ages and abilities.

I am proud of my team and the endless energy they exude for our guests of all ages and abilities. They help extinguish barriers participants may have (subconscious / aware) for full engagement in the rejuvenating experience of the artist’s journey. Art challenges and diversifies the way you think. And the Encinitas House of Art has made this powerful tool accesible.

Our story, like most small businesses, is interlaced with adversity. But our focus has always been serving our community with super-sized doses of peacefulness / perspective / kindness / hope / love / gratitude / lots-of-sparkle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Adventure: rent surfboards from Concept, get a facial at Four Moons Spa, QUIETLY stroll through the Meditation Gardens, hike Indian Head Canyon, adopt an exotic house plant from Jungle Music Tropical Plants, play pick-up pickleball at Bobby Riggs, enjoy a post-dinner Open Studio at the Encinitas House of Art, explore the San Diego Botanical Gardens, visit the Heritage Museum, admire the tidepools at Swamis.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The book “Mans Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl has been a powerful source of perspective. It was gifted to me by my friend, Scott, over a decade ago. At the time, I was enduring a life crisis. Dr. Frankl’s account of enduring atrocities and his observations of the human spirit changed the way I navigate obstacles. This great read helped me extinguish depression, combat losing perspective and add gratitude.

The Encinitas House of Art team consistently puts smiles on faces and encouragement in hearts. That kind of thankfulness is too overwhelming for words to hold.

Thank you to my friends and family who are endlessly compassionate, accepting, challenging, supportive, accountable (while demanding accountability) and encouraging. Thank you for the daily practice of re-focusing on gratitude…and helping illuminate the sparkle for others.
