We had the good fortune of connecting with Anais Muñoz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anais, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It has been a journey of many moments of reflection on how I can bring to life the concept and space I’ve been envisioning in my heart. Being from Tijuana, studying and working in San Diego is not an uncommon lifestyle for many who grow up in this geographic point. It always has felt like I’m from both places but last year was really crucial when it came to decision making. One important question I kept asking myself was: “Where are you going to build it?” Not only because Spanish is my first language, but because I have a deep connection with the city that grew up in and my home, it had to be Tijuana. I’ve always been a dreamer and an advocate for self-care, for that same reason I have imagined for a long period of time a place for my community to take a step back from the fast-paced environment, to ground and feel worthy of the time to tune in with themselves. I’m also very passionate about skin and beauty rituals, I’ve worked in the beauty industry for over 6 years and felt that it is important to pass on the knowledge that the uplifting feeling we all get after a skin therapy session is not a dream, and shouldn’t be exclusive to that unique moment, but something we can take with us and practice every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m really excited to share this space for pampering where you can learn and think critically about skin, where you can spend time recieving relaxing skin therapy sessions, and enjoying the atmosphere and universe that This is not a Dream wants to channel. It has not been an easy journey since I started in a more traditional beauty industry scenarios and approaches, sometimes based on marketing and profits, so disconnecting myself from all that exuberant and fast evolving enviroment was not easy. I wanted This is not a Dream to be about self love, skin care, and music. Our dream is to share professional and personalized skin treatments based on tenderness with ourselves. We believe that sef love is doing what makes you happy and we see skincare as a way of caring for ourselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend lives in another city and we have this inside joke about touring “La ruta del sabor” wich refers to specific places related to food and drink. First stop is always coffee, I told her next time she is in town we should definitely go to Koi Coffee, drink a Peach-berry latte and grab a koitart. Second stop is breakfast, we always get tacos varios to go from Tacos Menudos Tupidos in downtown. There are many different places I would like my friend to visit: Yo mommaz burgers, Brewja Coffeebar, Tony’s Pizza, and even La Ciruela Eléctrica to buy music records.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends have played a huge role in this process. They always remind me to believe in myself and to follow my dreams of creating this universe of sharing, caring, and healing. Shotout to my family for the way they’ve taugh me how to love others and myself. For constant support and encouragement. Shoutout to my clients who trust me and the process of tending to the skin from within.
