We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Before starting my business Classy Casita, I first created an Instagram page to share my love for home decor and plants. When creating this page and then blog, I knew I would eventually want to monetize from it and develop products for people that also shared my interests. Its been something that has given me so much joy which is what I wanted from the beginning, the freedom to create and share my love for home decor and plants with others.
What should our readers know about your business?
Classy Casita is still a very new business. Although I have had my blog for a while, I just released my first product which is a plant care product back in August 2020. What I am extremely proud about is how I was able to make it all happen on my own while struggling a move back to San Diego from the bay area at the start of a pandemic. I remember when I launched and shared with my Instagram followers, I instantly began to get customers and I made over 150 sales in one day. For other companies that might be nothing, but for a person doing it alone and being the brand developer, social media marketer, website developer, customer service, and packager, that was everything. After launching my product online I then visited and reached out to all of the local San Diego plant shops and nurseries and now you can find my meters locally at Pigment, NP Nursery, Eden SD, and more. I have also expended and have more retailers all over the US and now most recently in Canada. Something else I am extremely proud about is having my product launch on Amazon and how I quickly began competing with top sellers. It hasn’t been easy but it also hasn’t been extremely difficult because I am building something that I love and want it to succeed. Therefore I put a lot of time into it to not only develop the Classy Casita brand but my own personal brand beside it. Soon I will have home decor and lifestyle products available on the shop, so I hope to only keep growing from here!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first thing we would do would be to visit Better Buzz Coffee in Hillcrest for their Best Drink Ever, hand down. Then throughout the week we will visit other trendy coffee shops of course because there are so many! Since we are in a pandemic we would picnic almost every day to see the sunset at Bird Park in North Park and Kate Sessions in Pacific Beach. We would order a bunch of takeout from favorite spots like Underbelly, Taco Stand, Curryosity, Oscar’s Seafood, Urbn Pizza, and so much more. Then on the weekend we will do some fun hikes and get nice views of the ocean when visiting some of my favorite spots like Sunset Cliffs!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shoutout to my friends and family. They have always stuck by me and my crazy ideas and have been nothing but supportive and encouraging throughout my endeavors.
