We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Svette and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, how does your business help the community?
I’d like to think the social impact I make through the world of art is multifaceted. Being a public artist, my art in the community helps brighten dull walls, adds color to shipping containers, dumpsters, and electrical boxes, and inspires people in their custom workspaces. My niche of customizing shoes, brings such a personalized level of making people feel special, unique and helps make days feel lighter to walk. As an Art4healing facilitator, I help others feel comfortable to find their expression through art and realize they are artists themselves, who have stories to share.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Art is an amazing tool for expression, and for me, my art is always so deeply connected to my heart and nature to give and share kindness. I am always most excited about customizing shoes for kids in need, which was inspired by my time as a volunteer artist for the non-profit Hustle Kindness for many years. I always feel this deep connection and love in my work to be able to brighten a sick or struggling child feel loved, brave and be able to continue on their battle with some cool kicks. Other customizations can be a huge honor and a lot of trust that is given to me to commemorate beloved pets on shoes, or create personalized wedding shoes. It’s a lot of pressure, but it is so amazing to help make special moments even more memorable for people.

It has been a journey to grow to be a featured local public artist in Huntington Beach on numerous projects for the city. It hasn’t been easy since I juggle painting and being an Art4healing facilitator, on top of being a wife and mother. Family comes first, but they are my biggest cheering squad. I am always very grateful for any opportunity I have to paint for a city I have loved to be a part of for 20 years now. It really is exciting to be able to show your work to friends and family who come to town to visit, or when you get messages from people you don’t know who admire your work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Their trip has to start cruising on Main Street in Huntington Beach, stopping at 25 degrees for some delicious food and beverages, before walking the iconic pier and spending time at the beach.

Laguna beach is a day trip for sure, to see all the art galleries, shops and restaurants. My go to restaurants there would be Nick’s or South of Nicks.

Crystal Cove is a relaxing beach spot to enjoy for sunset, bonus if you can reserve a fire pit through the Beachcomber restaurant. They provide the chairs, propane fire and grill, you can order food to grill from them, drinks & smores, or bring your own.

Marios Mexican Restaurant holds a special place in my heart, being the friendliest family owned restaurant for over 50 years. Definitely try the chicken tortilla soup, mango margaritas and happy hour specials.

Corona Del Mar beach is a hidden little gem, with amazing cliffside homes and views. A relaxing family day in the books here.

Hiking is plentiful in SoCal with beautiful views, some of my favorite being in El Moro Canyon right off of Newport Coast and PCH.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people to thank for the love and support over the years in growing my artistic talents and teaching.

The amazing support I feel throughout our entire organization of Art & Creativity for Healing Inc, has encouraged me to be the best facilitator I can be, as well as grow in my artistic pursuits.

My husband, Chris, has been my number one fan and believes in me to tackle any project, no matter how big or in any time frame. He picks up a paint brush to help whenever I feel overwhelmed in those big projects.

My dad has always been my inspiration and guide in my artistic journey. Although I lost him in high school to cancer, he continues to inspire me to share my talents, especially to give back to those going through medical hardships and treatments for chronic illness.
