Meet Sue Subkow

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sue Subkow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sue, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I am a volunteer for a large nationwide, pet therapy organization. Pet therapy helps our community by reducing stress, improving mood, and promoting social connection and emotional well-being for people of all ages. We visit with people who are sometimes overlooked by other parts of society, people in long-term care facilities, assisted living, and even detention facilities. All of these people need kindness, compassion, and non-judgmental love. Pet therapy provides that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a dedicated volunteer leader with a background in corporate retail and over 15 years of service in pet provided therapy. I am the leader of one of Love On A Leash’s largest chapters which I founded in 2010. We have over 200 committed volunteers, a large number of which I personally mentored and helped to get certified. We serve our community 365 days a year with multiple community visits every single day. We have over 100 regularly scheduled visits on our Chapter calendar each month, and do multiple special community events each month as well. It is a challenge to coordinate so many different teams in so many different facilities, but it is certainly worth the effort.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to acknowledge all of my San Diego Central Chapter Love On A Leash pet therapy members, and give a special shout out to all of the “visit captains” who help to mentor new teams in training.
