We had the good fortune of connecting with Corinne Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corinne, how do you think about risk?
Owning my own business has always felt like a risk. It’s scary to rely solely on yourself for both work and income. Taking the leap to go full-time with photography and start my own business was a huge jump—but one I knew I’d have to make eventually. Every time I invest further in myself and my business, there’s always an initial cost and pressure for the risk to pay off.
A big part of that risk is pushing myself creatively—trying new things, knowing that not every idea will succeed. Betting on yourself over and over again takes a lot of confidence. It can be exhausting at times, but it’s also incredibly rewarding to see what’s possible when you commit fully to your vision and trust what you have to offer as a photographer.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What first drew me to photography was the creative process.
I loved setting up shoots with friends—styling their outfits, choosing the perfect location, and bringing a vision to life through beautiful photos. Over time, as my work evolved, I discovered a deep passion for capturing weddings, engagement sessions, and family moments.

For me, photography has never been about stiff poses or perfect smiles. It’s about capturing what’s real and authentic—freezing time and telling the story of the season each client is in. The sessions and weddings that light me up the most are the ones that feel truly personal and unique to the people in front of my lens.

What sets me apart is the value I place on being slow and intentional. I take time to get to know each client, to understand who they are and what matters most to them. That connection shows up in the photos we create together—images that feel like them, not just another photo.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve always loved showing friends and family around—people often joke that I’m a walking Yelp. I’d take them to all my favorite beaches in Newport and Long Beach, maybe even get out on the water for a sunset paddle board. We’d definitely hit up multiple coffee shops a day and eat our way through my favorite local spots—Bear Flag is always at the top of my list.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive so much generosity and support from others in the photography world. While the industry can be competitive at times, I’ve been lucky to connect with people who have truly invested in me and my growth as a photographer.
Early on, I interned with a wedding photographer who took me under her wing and taught me everything I know. So much of how I shoot and how I run my business today is a direct reflection of the skill and wisdom she passed on to me. Since then, I’ve continued to meet incredible photographers who have rallied behind me, offered guidance, and helped me refine both my craft and my confidence. I truly owe so much thanks and appreciation to these people who have guided me through my journey of becoming a photographer.
