Meet Milano Sliwa

We had the good fortune of connecting with Milano Sliwa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Milano, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Baghdad, Iraq, and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 10 through the UN Asylum Program. My family fled persecution and spent time in Syria before starting over in San Diego. That experience shaped me in ways I’m still grateful for. Learning English in under six months, adapting to a new culture, and watching my parents rebuild their lives taught me resilience and determination at a young age. I pushed myself to succeed—graduating Magna Cum Laude from SDSU in three years and earning my J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
As a Middle Eastern woman in the legal field, I’m proud to represent both my heritage and my gender in a profession where we’re still underrepresented. I bring a unique perspective to my work—not only because of my lived experience, but because I understand the importance of giving a voice to those who are often overlooked or misunderstood. I’m fluent in Arabic and Neo-Aramaic, and I use that to break down barriers for clients who may feel intimidated by the legal system.
My background taught me never to take opportunity for granted. Today, as an attorney at Guy Levy Law, I carry that drive into everything I do—fighting for justice, advocating with empathy, and hopefully paving the way for others like me.

What should our readers know about your business?
As an attorney at Guy Levy Law, I’ve built my career on being a strong voice for those who feel unheard. What sets me apart is the compassion I bring to every case. I don’t treat clients like case numbers—I treat them like people. I make it a point to be available, to listen, and to stand by them during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
Being fluent in Arabic and Neo-Aramaic has allowed me to connect with clients who might otherwise feel lost in the legal system. That shared language builds trust, comfort, and confidence. I came to the U.S. at 10 years old, started as a law clerk, and worked my way up—driven by a deep understanding of what it means to fight for a better future and help others do the same.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit San Diego, we’d spend most of the week by the water—jetskiing, paddleboarding in the bay, kayaking through sea caves, and catching sunsets at the beach. We’d hike coastal trails like Torrey Pines for the views and spend our evenings enjoying the energy of the city. I’d make sure they experienced the perfect mix of ocean, adventure, and relaxation—because that’s what San Diego does best.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s no way I would be where I am today without the love and support of my family. I want to dedicate this shoutout first and foremost to my parents, who sacrificed everything to give me and my siblings a better future. Their strength, resilience, and values are the foundation of everything I do.
I also want to recognize my older sister, Dr. Monica Sliwa, who has always been my biggest inspiration and support system. She believed in me even when I doubted myself, and her guidance and encouragement helped me push through every obstacle on my path.
