Meet Halo Kitsch | PopRock Singer-Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Halo Kitsch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Halo, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
As a musician who primarily focuses on writing from a first person point of view, a personal narrative, I think I crave to be understood and validated. Although, my dream has always been to make a comfortable living off of my art in the realm of music (be it as an artist or a songwriter, to connect with an audience that feels seen and understood by the way I explain the world through my own experience) in many ways I have already begun to tap into something much bigger than that – the spiritual bonding of myself to my listeners in pure human intimacy through music. I find so much joy in expressing myself through the medium and have been lucky enough to be received by people with so much love that even in these early stages of my “career” where it isn’t considered very profitable, the value for me is still rather priceless. I remind myself often that the end goal was never about money, it was always about pursuing my passion and having an outlet for emotions that feel too big to manage. Ultimately I just seek pride in my work and fulfillment from the process of making it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been songwriting my whole life, but the first song I ever considered finished and worthy was called “f l a w l e s s” in the summer of 2015. I went from making beats with friends in bedrooms to sheds to living rooms to garage’s to studios and back to garage’s, ha. Finding my sound has been a long journey and I’m not sure that road ever ends. It has been ten years of swinging back and forth on a pendulum of self doubt versus faith, risk versus reward. I have to return constantly to the aspects the process and the industry that I love. That looked like reconnecting with the piano to write in my favorite way, just me and the keys… finding other artists that welcomed me into their world and lifted me up (Tessa Rae being my greatest example)… and focusing on the music rather than the noise (I’m still practicing this). When the uphill climb is daunting I return to those things that I love. I love writing songs so much, it is so magical to me, that I just can’t step away. It makes all of the nonsense of social media and self promotion worth it. If it bullshit outweigh’d the passion, it would be a pointless waste of effort. Life is too short, you have to love it enough to love even the ugly parts, or you have to learn to love the ugly parts too.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I grew up in Los Angeles, I love this city. I love hiking Runyon Canyon followed with brunch at Hugo’s (the patio is dog friendly). I love the North Hollywood Park at sunset – its picnic perfect. I love watching tourists walk the Sunset Strip, of course we’d stop for a random tattoo and maybe get dinner at Katsuya or The Nice Guy. And then I suppose I’d take them to see an up and coming artist at The Viper Room or Adults Only. A night of vertical lights, song dancing through the air. Maybe a day trip through Agoura (my hometown) to bask on Zuma Beach. Growing up in LA has humbled me in a strange way, there is such a spectrum of ferocity and hunger in the city. I love love love driving past the murals of legendary people, being a Laker’s fan – ha, and the thrill of a buzzing night out on the town, and the swarming feeling of possibility.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has always been my biggest cheering squad, safety net, shoulders to cry on. They show up to every concert with my face on their t shirts. I feel really blessed to have such a supportive built in team. But in addition to them, my shoutout would have to be my producer Ben Zelico. I don’t think I’d be anywhere yet without having found him, he’s developed me and my sound in way that only a real friendship could. He’s pushed me and challenged me and nurtured my art in a way that fuels my process in such an invigorating way. Finding someone like that is surely rare and I really do not take it for granted.
