Meet Ann Degischer | Hair stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ann Degischer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ann, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It was never really a choice in the traditional sense, it was more like a pull that has always been there. Early on, I dabbled in the fashion industry, I loved sketching & sewing clothes, I went to school for it but ended up choosing a different direction. I always craved something tactile, personal, transformative. Hair was the perfect medium: sculptural, ever-evolving, fun, not too serious.
In San Diego, where people embrace the casual but crave sophistication, it’s the perfect audience for what I do. It’s rewarding, translating a client’s personality into shape, texture, and color. It’s part skill, part intuition. Creativity is the lens I see the world through

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is, at its core, a curated experience. Equal parts artistry, precision, and emotional intelligence. It’s not just about hair; it’s about how you feel in your hair, how you carry yourself when you leave my chair. I work one-on-one by design, no assistants. It’s boutique, it’s elevated, and every detail matters, from the tone of the lighting to the texture of the products I use.
What sets me apart? I listen differently. I’ve built a reputation for translating vague descriptions into shapes and tones that align with who someone really is. I’m not chasing trends.
Getting here was a slow burn. There were years of 10 hour days, periods of stagnation, saying yes to things I probably should’ve said no to, just to stay in motion. Once I became an independent stylist is when I really cranked the inspiration up, I took lots of classes (I still do), reached out to my friends who were further along in the business than me & listened to their advice. Sometimes it has been scary, but always worth it.
The biggest lesson? Protect your energy like it’s currency. Be yourself, be ok with not being perfect, never underestimate the power of good lighting.
What I want the world to know is that my brand isn’t about me-it’s about you, amplified. If I’ve done my job well, people won’t say, “Who did your hair?” They’ll say, “You look incredible.” And that’s the whole point.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Eat at Starlite, Kindred, Bread & Cie. Walk through balboa park, have a drink at Panama 66 & sit in the sculpture garden. Go to a show at The Casbah. Since it’s almost summer, one of my favorite things to do is get a sandwich at the Olive Tree Market in ocean beach & then go post up at Santa Cruz or Garbage beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All my dear stylist friends that I met through working at A Robert Cromeans Salon &. Paul Mitchell the School, earlier in my career.
