We had the good fortune of connecting with Leo Bottary and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leo, how does your business help the community?
We live in a world that has become increasingly divisive. According to the Edelman Trust Barometer, which has studied public trust in institutions for 25 years, from 2003 to 2006, we were wondering who to believe. By 2018, in what the firm described as the “battle for truth,” we couldn’t even agree on what to believe anymore. With business being the most trusted of the four institutions covered by Edelman (the others being government, media, and NGOs), people are looking to their workplaces and their CEOs to make sense of the world and connect on something meaningful. Peernovation provides teams of all kinds with the models and frameworks necessary to achieve the level of clarity, cooperation, and collaboration necessary to make this fragile world of ours a better place.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I spent most of my career in corporate communication on both the agency and client sides of the business. I have enjoyed the privilege of working with many brilliant and talented people who saw possibilities rather than limits. They taught me that we have something to learn from everyone. A pivotal point for me was earning my master’s degree more than 20 years after receiving my BA. Until then, I never found a program that felt like the right fit until learning about Seton Hall University’s Master of Arts in Strategic Communication and Leadership curriculum. It changed my life by introducing me to peer learning and piquing my interest in a position at Vistage Worldwide, an organization that assembles and facilitates peer advisory groups and business leaders in 40 countries. My experience there led me to do the purposeful work I do today, taking what CEO Forums have been doing so brilliantly for decades, and helping organizations of all sizes apply these principles and practices to their teams to drive higher performance and inspire happier, more engaged employees.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would play lots of golf, eat at various restaurants, drink the best wine we could afford, watch a few episodes of Ted Lasso, and get some rest for the following day. Pretty easy to do in Southern California!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, children, and grandchildren. Each plays a special role in helping me see the best in people and places, learn something new every day, and do my best to leave the world a little better for our grandkids and their kids.
