We asked some brilliant folks from the community to talk to us about how they think about risk and the role risk has played in their lives and careers.

I think taking risk is key in anything we do in life. Think about all of the greats that came before us. They were the greatest risk takers who fueled innovation and technology that helped create the luxuries that we enjoy today. In my own life I will say that making the commitment to move to California was one of my greatest risks. Accepting a new job in a location that I have never been to sounded crazy to most people back home, but I knew I needed to make a huge change in my life. That decision is what ultimately led me into acting which is something I did not expect at all. I am a big advocate for taking risks. I embrace risk—especially now, when time is on my side. My faith lets me act boldly but not recklessly: I trust God’s control over outcomes, but I still listen, learn, and lean into discernment. For me, taking risks has never meant being fearless – it’s about moving forward even when you’re unsure how things will turn out. I moved from Germany to the U.S. with my husband at the time, and while it was an exciting step, staying here also brought a lot of worry. I left behind stability, family, and a system I understood. If i didn’t take chances I wouldn’t be a champion today, Risk used to scare me I use to doubt myself. Until I faced risk head on an attacked it first I became free and felt like I could accomplish anything any goal I would set.
