Meet Josie Anderson

We had the good fortune of connecting with Josie Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For most of my life, I played it safe. I followed the rules, stayed in my comfort zone, and did what was expected of me. But what I didn’t realize was that this very mindset—my resistance to taking risks—was quietly holding me back.
It all came to a head during what I can only describe as an early mid-life crisis. I found myself stuck in a loop that left me emotionally drained: wake up, go to work, come home, cook dinner, clean the house, go to bed, repeat. My weekends revolved around my kids’ soccer games—something I genuinely cherish—but the routine, the monotony, had begun to chip away at my mental health.
Despite my ambition to succeed in my career, the daily grind was exhausting. Eventually, the anxiety I had long ignored could no longer be silenced. I visited a doctor who prescribed medication, but deep down, I knew that wasn’t the path I wanted to take. I craved something deeper, something that would heal me from the inside out.
That’s when I discovered a soul purpose program. It was a leap I never thought I’d take—financially, emotionally, spiritually. I remember telling the program coordinator I couldn’t afford it. Her response stopped me in my tracks: “If you’re meant to do this, you’ll find a way to make it happen.”
Those words stuck with me. I turned inward and upward, saying a simple prayer: “If I’m meant to do this, God, please provide.” I surrendered the outcome, trusting that the universe would support me. And it did. Through a series of unexpected blessings and the kindness of others, I was able to enroll in the program. I paid every penny back, but more importantly, I began paying attention to myself—for the first time in a long time.
That decision marked the beginning of a new chapter. The version of me who feared risks is now someone who sees them as the gateway to freedom, healing, and purpose.

What should our readers know about your business?
At The Divine Self by Josie, I support ambitious, burnt-out working moms in reclaiming their time, clarity, and sense of purpose—one page at a time. Through the transformative power of journaling, I guide women back to themselves so they can live with intention, not just obligation.
What sets this journal apart isn’t just beautiful design or prompts—it’s the intentional fusion of spirituality and science. I believe every woman is on her own unique path, and this journal honors that by combining ancient wisdom with research-backed tools. It’s a gentle, guided journey through the subconscious mind, helping women break through limiting beliefs and rewrite the stories that have held them back.
The creation of this journal was deeply personal. It took over a year to complete, and every page reflects my lived experiences—from the soul purpose program that sparked my transformation, to lessons from therapy, to years of journaling through my own emotional challenges. But above all, this journal was crafted through divine inspiration—through prayer, trust, and a deep knowing that I was meant to help others heal the way I did.
The road here wasn’t smooth. Financial stress, self-doubt, and family dynamics threatened to derail my progress more than once. But I kept showing up. I used this journal myself, every single day, to process the resistance and reconnect to my mission. That’s what truly sets my brand apart: I’m not just the creator—I’m a student of this work, too.
Today, I’m in the process of planning my first women’s event—a beautiful extension of The Divine Self. It’s scary. The voices in my head say it’s too much work, that I’m not ready. But I quiet those fears the same way I teach others to: I journal one intention each morning and take just one aligned step forward.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned in business—and in life—is this: you are not your thoughts. Fear will always whisper doubts, but your expansion, your purpose, your dream life lives beyond the edge of certainty. Step into the unknown anyway. Because that’s where the magic begins.
The Divine Self is more than a brand. It’s a movement for women who are ready to reconnect, reimagine, and rise.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my best friend comes to visit, I don’t just want to show them around—I want them to feel the energy that drew me to San Diego in the first place. My perfect week-long itinerary is all about balance: peace, nature, culture, and just the right amount of play.
We’d start each day with my daily ritual—a morning walk along Mission Bay, continuing down to Pacific Beach, my home and personal sanctuary. There’s something about the calm, glassy bay paired with the rhythmic crash of the ocean waves that instantly grounds you. It’s the kind of walk that reminds you to breathe a little deeper and slow down.
For the adventurers and nature lovers, I’d take them on some of San Diego’s most stunning waterfall hikes. My top three? Three Sisters Falls, Cedar Creek Falls, and Stoddard Canyon Falls. Each trail offers a breathtaking journey through the backcountry, ending in a cool, refreshing waterfall you can actually swim in—a rare gem in Southern California.
Mid-week, we’d shift gears for a dose of history and culture with a visit to Old Town San Diego. We’d explore the vibrant shops, enjoy live mariachi music, and dine at one of my all-time favorite spots—Old Town Mexican Café. Their handmade tortillas alone are worth the trip.
Of course, no visit would be complete without soaking in all that Pacific Beach has to offer. Mornings are for quiet coffee walks along the boardwalk; evenings are for people-watching, cocktails by the water, and soaking in the electric sunset energy that makes PB so magical. It’s the perfect blend of laid-back and lively—and exactly why I chose to plant roots here.
Honestly, once you’ve spent a week in this rhythm—connecting with nature, tuning into your body, and letting the ocean reset your soul—you’ll understand why, in my view, there’s nowhere else you need to be. Just give me the beach, the hikes, and good company, and I’m home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are countless individuals who’ve played a meaningful role in my transformation, and I’m deeply grateful for each one.
First and foremost, I want to thank Sahara Rose and the Dharma Coaching Institute for creating a powerful program that gave me the tools—and the courage—to start a new chapter in alignment with my soul’s purpose. It was truly the spark that lit the fire within me.
I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to Cathy Heller and Samantha Kozuch, two incredible women whose work helped me shift from a scarcity mindset to one rooted in abundance and possibility. Their guidance opened my eyes to just how much more life has to offer when you believe you’re worthy of receiving it.
Lastly, I want to thank Felena Hanson, founder of Hera Hub, for cultivating a supportive community of like-minded women entrepreneurs. Her vision has created a space where connection, collaboration, and growth flourish—and I’m proud to be a part of it.
Each of these women contributed something unique to my story, and I’m standing where I am today because of their impact.
