We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa and Veronica Castillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa and Veronica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of our brand is the emotional connection we have with costumers and with our whole concept. For the last three years we have focused on keeping our costumers engaged in every step of our journey. By attending to our weekly farmer’s markets, holiday events and local activities, we get to connect with our locals and tourists. We love to hear how our product has a special connection with a memory they may have from the place they tasted it for the first time or how they feel fascinated to see something new and unusual Also our passion for what we do keeps us motivated to continue innovating.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are the creators of Mia Sorella Chimney Cakes, the first and only Mobile Hungarian Bakery in San Diego. We are proud to be the first ones to bring this innovative concept to our city. What set us apart from other chimney cakes companies within the united states or even europe it is that we dicided to focus on the main product which is the chimney cake, we wanted the fillings to complement this unique bread and make them attractive to people from all the ages, creating signatures spreads with unique flavor profiles which had been key in our popularity. We have plans to sell our signature spreads soon. To get to where we are now we had worked very hard creating our company culture, trying to expose our vision through art, originality using our favorite ingredients and supporting local farms and businesses. Also being able to provide consistent, high quality products make us a reliable brand, people know exactly what to expect every time they purchase our products. One of the challenges that we had to overcome was how to keep our business alive during this pandemic. Due to Covid-19 we had to stop operating at the Farmers Markets so we had to come up with different ways to keep selling our product in the safest way possible so we started to offer delivery. It also gave us the opportunity to get creative and add some new items like our special chimney rings + cheese and charcuterie boxes they have been extremely popular and now it is one of our top sellers. Something fun about our business is that we try to relate every aspect of it to our lifestyle, per example Mia Sorella Means my sister in Italian Which is one of vanessa’s favorite cultures but also we are very close as sisters so Mia Sorella means a lot to us. In order to work together we not only have to get along but we have to share a purpose and passion and that has been key for us to be able to run and operate our business, we share the same passion and work ethic. We have learn a lot from this journey and what keep us in business up to this day is our amazing community and loyalty from our customers what makes us feel very fortunate and grateful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego is definitely the Finest City in the US so it has a lot to offer. We can start by visiting our Local Farmers Markets to support small businesses and farms. It is a great way to see how multicultural our city is.. We love the beach so Coronado Island Is a very good option, we would suggest to stop by mootime creamery to stroll through the beach and catch the sunset. One of our favorite neighborhoods is little italy, we would recommend Nolita hall for a cocktail or bar food, Isola pizza bar for authentic pizza napolitana, the lion share for an exotic tasty food and decoration. The Westgate hotel it is a must, they have an amazing Sunday brunch, from Ocean beach, we love OB noddle house and Cesarina for a fun Italian dinner. There are endless options, we always suggest to walk by the Embarcadero, visit point loma stop by liberty public market and also visit La Jolla, ca. Check out local business for delivery options. And of course don’t forget to try Mia Sorella Chimney Cakes! The only chimney cakes in San Diego ca! We offer delivery through out the week, we take orders through DM and email. You can’t miss out! #StayHungarySD

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are definitely a group of people that have supported us through out our journey. We would like to Thank our Family which are our parents and little sister who are our biggest supporters. Since day one they jumped in with us in this adventure and we feel blessed to have them by our side. Another very special person we would like to dedicate our shout out is to our special friend Leroy Mossel one of the founders of Blue Bridge Hospitality. We used to work with his company and he always encouraged us to believe in ourselves and to follow our dreams. We really appreciate his mentorship and advices. Thank you Leroy for all your support and for believing in our potential to create something unique.
