Meet Michael Kachoeff | friend / owner of the 6740

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Kachoeff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance is essential in everything, from fielding a ground ball to building something or making soup—balance in materials, balance in ingredients, balance in emotions, balance in health, and so on.
We are constantly faced with imbalance in our existence; life is full of struggles, and it’s through these struggles that we learn and grow. The key is recognizing each struggle as a temporary lesson. We all start as children, learning to see our struggles and pains as part of our personal story—myself included. Yet, with each challenge, I’ve learned a powerful truth: nothing lasts forever. When we begin to view our struggles not as burdens, but as opportunities to solve puzzles or learn something new, even the darkest clouds can eventually give way to blue skies. Life’s storms, no matter how fierce, eventually pass, leaving behind the clarity and strength we need to move forward.
Somewhere along the way, I realized that things I once thought were disastrous or catastrophic events eventually became nothing more than memories of the past. No, things haven’t always been easy. Like everyone else, I’ve faced business failure, health issues (I was born with hemophilia), and the pain of losing people I’ve loved most.
To paraphrase Coach John Wooden, I’d like to “make every moment a masterpiece” and help give everyone the chance to shine. If we don’t do that today, we might miss the opportunity—or the tools—to create a better, happier, and more successful tomorrow, or even the years ahead.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We opened our doors in 1997, nearly 28 years ago, and over time, we’ve not only survived but thrived. The 6740 is more than just a restaurant and pub—it’s a place built on passion, heart, and a strong connection to our community through food, drink, music, and art.
From the start, our goal was to elevate the pub food experience. While “pub grub” was the standard in 1997, we wanted to offer something more. We focus on unique, housemade recipes, with most items prepared from scratch daily.
We’re most proud of the incredible people we attract—our community of regulars, irregulars, newcomers, and everyone in between. Our loyal following extends well beyond our street or zip code, reaching far beyond Los Angeles. We’re honored to contribute, in our small way, to a global effort to make the world a kinder, friendlier, and more peaceful place.
Getting here wasn’t easy. Like any business, we faced our share of challenges—learning how to stay relevant, navigating tough times, and staying true to our values. But we’ve learned to view challenges as opportunities to grow. Every setback has been a lesson in perseverance. What’s kept us going is staying true to who we are: creating a space where people feel welcome, appreciated, and at home. Focusing on creativity, kindness, community, and quality has always seen us through.
What we want the world to know is simple: The 6740 is a place to connect with others, explore new experiences, and feel part of something bigger. It reflects everything we believe in—a community-centered, inclusive, and ever-evolving space where everyone is welcome to share in the love, hustle, and heart we put into everything we do.

Our motto is: If you like it, we love it!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has thought of me, supported me, or helped me along the way. I have learned from each of you, and I carry those lessons with me as I continue to grow. I am especially thankful for my family—my friend, wife & partner, Kimberly Harlan, my brother, Buddy Zapata, as well as my grandmother, father, and mother, whose teachings continue to shape me every day. I am also deeply grateful to all the countless influences and sources of wisdom that have guided my journey. Each of you has played a part in who I am today, and for that, I am truly thankful.
I realize some may find my words strange or even foolish, but I speak them with the utmost sincerity. I am a result of the love, wisdom, and kindness I have received. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
