We had the good fortune of connecting with Mercygrace Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mercygrace, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had been creating social media content personally and professionally for over 2 years before jumping into my own business. I loved creating content but was hesitant about starting my own company. I had a lot of doubt about being able to handle being a business owner, if I was the right type of person to be able to sustain a clientele, so much so, that I sat on the idea for a year before deciding to jump into it. I just decided one day it was now or never, and that there would never be a good time to start working for myself. I had to go all in and worry less about the ‘what if’s’. Looking back I wish I had started my business sooner, but I’m glad I didn’t wait a second longer to start pursuing my own work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets my content apart from other creators is my unique ability to capture the little moments and intricate details. I’ve always had a keen eye for the finer points that often go unnoticed, and my work reflects my storytelling ability. Every brand, business, and love story has untold stories woven into these details, and my pursuit is to bring those narratives to life through my content.
Getting to where I am now was a slow process of trial and error. I took my time to learn how I wanted to create content and how I could improve the work I was producing. I wanted the best lighting, angles and editing and I knew the only way I would be able to create that, was by a lot of practice. I’m definitely still learning how to produce the best content possible, but I’m satisfied with how far my work has come.
I don’t think people realize as social media content creators we wear many hats, we not only have to come up with the creative concepts but also execute them. It’s a unique process and as a team of one, getting stumped on a project is inevitable. Learning to reach out and lean on other creatives in my community has been a huge help. I have the privilege of being apart of a uplifting group of content creators, who support and encourage each other. Having this encouraging circle of like-minded individuals, who are also going through similar business hurtles, has added so much value to my work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town I would start our day at Madi, it’s one of my favorite brunch spots. Then I would take them to Belmont Park for the day. I loved going there growing up and it’s a great place to feel like a kid again. Then we’d go to PB and walk around, maybe grab some ice cream at Stella Jeans and dinner at The Fish Shop for the best fried salmon.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be where I am or know anything about what I do without Victoria Rose from thatBliss Weddings. She is a huge mentor when it comes to my business. I love being able to work with her and for her on so many projects and contribute a large part of my success to her.
