We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Karolyi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want people to remember me for several reasons. The way I truly see life and how I believe it should be lived.

Since I was a young boy, I have always been a very passionate person and have always followed my heart regarding my decisions. Certainly unique and “my way”, I feel blessed to say I have had a beautiful journey and feel like the best is yet to come.

At 14 years of age, I realized my love for horses and the sport was so strong that I should probably pursue it through my life, since I felt there would never be a big enough challenge or obstacle to stop me from wanting to keep learning and pushing forward, I still feel this way today.

The horses; the amount of joy and fulfillment I get from feeling like I have improved a horses’ life is something I don’t think I can truly explain, through the knowledge I have gained and that has been gifted to me along my path, as a horseman, as a rider and as a sportsman. These animals are so vulnerable and are under the mercy of our knowledge, this truly drives me to keep learning.

The students; the same as with the horses, I love helping and educating people to enjoy their horses, understand them better and this way I can extend my reach in how many horses I help through other people. I have also learned over the years, that my way and my system is not truly understood by everybody, and it’s ok!I love competing and winning but we always, always put our horses’ welfare and best interest first. We are here for them! Our agendas and goals are ultimately decided by them, whether they are ready or not. That being said, when our horsemanship and our goals line up, that is when the “magic” truly happens! In the end, my students must have the same fire fueling them inside, the love for the horse; horseman over sportsman. It’s a journey with no ego and 100% about the horse. I am very proud of that.

So my legacy; I want people to follow their heart, live a passionate life, whatever that fire is inside them, chase it with everything you’ve got, do it your way. While you do all these do not forget to be loving, be genuine, make mistakes, learn from them, try to become a better person, help others and remember it’s not about the journey or the destination, it’s about the company.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I love the coastal community in North County.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everyone who has shared their love and gifted their knowledge to me. Too many to name all, but they all know who they are!
