We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Hinojosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business was something that was a true rollercoaster of emotions but most importantly it was a change that made me so excited about the future. I had always dreamt of curating a salon that was truly a safe place for my clients as well as for myself. I am a big advocate for helping everyone who sits in my chair feel welcome to express themselves in any way they feel is beautiful and authentic to them. I knew that the only way I would be able to fulfill this dream of mine was to let go of the fear of the unknown and take the big scary leap. Once I finally set my plan into motion, and shared the big news to all of my clients, they were all so excited and supportive which allowed the process to become less scary for me, and has been one of the most fulfilling things I have done for my career.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Studio Three 33 is a Sola Salon Suite. I created my salon to be a safe place for all of my current and future clients. I’ve loved being able to form personalized one on one experience for my clients from beginning to end. Whether my guests need a quiet relaxing visit, someone to chat with, I’m here for it all! I help all of my guests attain their hair goals while helping them set realistic expectations for each visit. Even when I’m given creative freedom to giving them a look I believe would suit them best, I always take the time to have thorough consultations with every guest in order to create a look they will love. In addition, I also enjoy sharing my knowledge on all things hair with every guest in order to help them form a proper at home hair care routine that is easy for them to follow. I’ve been behind the chair for 5 years, in December of 2023 I was excited to open the door to Studio Three 33 for the very first time! This was a dream of mine for quite some time, but was always afraid to enter the world of Salon Ownership as this was something I had little to no knowledge about. After lots of time spent reflecting on my accomplishments in my career I knew I was ready to spread my wings and start up my own business even if I was afraid of the unknown. Through this process I learned tons of lessons but two that have really stuck with me are these: 1. Often times in order to accomplish big dreams, you have to do the things that scare you the most 2. Always have faith in yourself even when things seem tough because there is always people next to you who believe in you every single day. I am so grateful that I took the chance on myself in starting my salon business, and am always excited to continue watching it grow. One thing I would like for the world to know about me is that I genuinely care about every single one of my clients. They’re more than just clients; they become friends, and I cherish the connections we share.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were to have my best friend visit Carlsbad I would definitely take her to grab food and drinks at one of my favorite restaurants, Le Papagayo in the Carlsbad village. Afterwards, we would go shopping at the Carlsbad Outlets for some retail therapy and enjoy the views of the beautiful springtime flower fields. Afterwards, I would highly recommend taking a walk down at the beach to unwind and enjoying a relaxing sunset!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey of being a hairstylist has honestly been shaped by a group of various people. Since day one, I was always encouraged to push my limits by two of my beauty school educators who have always rooted for me since I was just a baby in the industry, and have done so to this present day. They taught me how important furthering my education was, and have taken me along with them to various industry related events. Thanks to their constant mentorship and support, I’ve also had the honor of having my work place in big industry competitions as well. My parents who are also in the hair industry always cheered me on as well every step of the way, but most importantly I received immense love and support from my amazing clients who found me at my previous salon. They truly were the ones that allowed for my small business to thrive and be possible.
