We had the good fortune of connecting with Edmund (Eddy) Addai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Edmund (Eddy), can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Our mission is to provide southern inspired homestyle cuisine to the New England region and beyond! And do so through the creation of sustainable careers for disadvantaged communities. There is a great disparity between businesses owned by people of color and the number of people in which they employ. As we continue to grow our company through job creation we hope to actively reduce the disparity that exist within the North East and bettering the communities in which we operate. The restaurant industry is known for high employee turnover and we would like to build a culture where individuals can see themselves long term, know their efforts are valued, and feel a part of the companies success. At Stack House we look to empower our employees to be bold and creative with opportunities for personal and career advancement.

What should our readers know about your business?
Stack House is a quick service fried chicken and southern cuisine restaurant. We are well known for our custom Chicken and Waffle dishes, gourmet chicken sandwiches, and authentic southern flavors. What makes me the most proud is when customers who were raised in the south or who happen to be visiting within this region come to our restaurant and say the food tastes as good as it does back home! All of our recipes are original, made from scratch, and our chicken is always fresh and never frozen. Over the last four years Stack House has built a name for itself as some of the best food in Rhode island even securing the title of “Lord of the Wings” Best Wings RI 2023 award. CEO Eddy Addai was recently selected as Rhode Island;s SBA Young Entrepreneur of Year award 2024 which is a testament to the dedication and focus required to maintain a successful operation in the challenging restaurant industry.

“Getting to this point in the business was not easy as a first time entrepreneur who had not worked in a traditional kitchen environment. In the first year everyday was an opportunity to learn and I did so by making mistakes and applying the lessons even quicker. Showing up everyday with the motivation to be better than before is the mindset that you need to have in order to get through the growing pains as a start-up. I learned that it takes true passion and sacrifice to build a company honestly real blood, sweat, and tears.”

I want the world to keep and eye on us at Stack House because we plan to be here for awhile!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It depends what side of town we’re on! If we’re in South County and we’re not eating at Stack House we definitely have to visit Chophouse Grille in Wakefield they got the best steaks and drinks or GoPasta for some high quality gourmet! If we’re going my city, Providence got the coolest vibes and the best events are either at Crib or Noir Lounge, so we definitely have to check that out for the night. One of my favorite bars downtown has got to be the Eddy with their specialty drink menu and the best pizza is at Fellini’s Pizzeria.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people to shoutout who have helped me along this journey but I want to dedicate this one to the Social Enterprise Greenhouse. I had the honor of working with such an amazing organization and network dedicated to social entrepreneurship as Stack House began to enter a growth stage. Through this relationship I was able to strengthen our mission and gain the knowledge and resources to follow through in building an organization focused on making a difference. This experience has led to many different opportunities and I’m thankful I was able to join this network.
