Meet Lydia Flowers | Self-love Motivator & Confidence Dealer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lydia Flowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lydia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It started with my own journey! I have battled with my weight for what feels like my entire life. Trying all types of fad diets, supplements, routines, etc. I have always been the thicker girl and struggled a lot with my self image growing up. Being raised in southern California in the late 90’s/ early 2000’s was like living in a bubble where barbie, ken and Baywatch babes were the images held to the “being beautiful” standard. Then fast forward a few years to 2010 and all of a sudden, being thicker and having curves were seen as more desirable views of “beauty.” It clicked for me about 2 years ago that being beautiful started with me, and that the first step for me to feel beautiful was to feel healthy. I took nutrition and learning the logical way of losing weight very seriously for myself, that grew into a passion of wanting to help others. Within that journey I found a love for myself that grew into an idea of forming a community. A space that doesn’t focus on just physical health but mental and spiritual. Capturing the essence of a whole individual through body, mind and soul, thus “The Garden Space” was born.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Most of my professional career has been in the corporate/ professional learning and development space. I am a dynamic and motivated professional with a proven record of generating and building relationships, managing projects from concept to completion, designing educational strategies, and coaching individuals to success. I am skilled in building cross-functional teams, demonstrating exceptional communication skills, and making good decisions in challenging times. Additionally, I am an adaptable and transformational leader with an ability to work independently, creating effective presentations, and developing opportunities that further establish organizational goals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Areas: Hillcrest, North Park, Downtown, Sea Port Village, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, Torrey Pines Beach, Torrey Pines
I would focus on cute places to eat with fun drinks and amazing scenery. At night we would explore more of downtown’s scenery or check out the hip areas of North Park and Hillcrest. We would travel a lot by cycle, walking or a short drive.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The family I have chosen is a small community but they create a big impact in my motivation. A big shout out goes to them and the ones I have inspired to move towards their dreams, not away. The ones I have inspired in silence to take a step back and learn to react out of logic and not emotion, and to the ones who I have yet to meet, collaborate and/or help, they too inspire me to build. To become a part of a much bigger community that will have hopefully a very positive impact on not just humanity but the world.
