We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becca, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I worked in retail for over 18 years. Retail is a very demanding job especially in Management. I knew I wanted to one day be able to run my own business and create my own hours that would allow me to spend more time with Family. I had always had a passion for Photography I just never thought I would be able to start my own business being so consumed by the world of Retail, however in 2018 an opportunity presented itself and as I would like to call it, it was a Blessing in Disguise. I found myself free from Retail and this left the door wide open for me to be able to start my Photography Business. Being able to capture so many Memories of Families year after year that have become Friends and watch their young ones grow right before my lens has been the most rewarding in wanting to start this business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Small Town Local Photographer. I think what sets me apart from others is my love and passion for what I do but also my love for everyone who books me. I do not consider them Clients, to me they are Friends and Family. I love creating a connection with each and every one of them. I always get excited when they continue to book year after year.

Getting to where I am today was definitely not easy. I am from a small town and to be quite honest I definitely wasn’t the most popular girl who had a lot of Friends, so when I started my business the first thing that went through my mind was “Who on earth is going to book me?” Like I said I didn’t have a lot of Friends, people knew of me but they didn’t really know me. I decided to just do it and put myself out there. It took a while. I started with very low prices and did some model calls and before you know it word of mouth continued to spread and well here we are.

I have learned that if you don’t try you will always ask yourself what if. It’s always best to just put yourself out there and if it doesn’t work well then at least you knew you gave it a shot.

I want the world to know that no matter what you went through in life no matter how many obstacles life throws at you, you are the author of your story so you can choose to write your story the way you want it to be written. Change the narrative if you need to and definitely don’t let your past reflect the person you want to become.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from a small town there really is not many places to visit or hang out so If I had a Best Friend coming to visit I would probably just take them to Palm Springs and eat at one of my Favorite Mexican Restaurants (Las Casuelas) Maybe take a trip to Disneyland. I absolutely love Disneyland and I have not been there in a while. Overall I am a pretty laid back kinda girl these days so hanging out at my home in my backyard by my fire pit laughing and catching up is probably what we would be doing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I would like to say my Mom and Sister. Much love to my Sister who is no longer with us. They have been with me from the very beginning and have been my biggest support system throughout my entire journey. Second would be my Husband. This Man dedicates his entire life to supporting all my crazy ideas within my business the good, the bad and the ugly. If it was not for him buying me my first camera I don’t think my Passion would have never been reignited.
