We had the good fortune of connecting with Julio Jara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julio, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I feel my business model, which is a baseball academy is so much more than an academy. It teaches the game of life through the process of baseball, and makes young man accountable for their actions. Teaches discipline, structure, commitment, accountability and being part of a structured environment which leads them to be fine young men in society. Building tough skin and improving their character and getting them ready for the real world. It’s not all roses and peaches and life will humble you and teach you lessons just like the game does. How will you bounce back? and can you deal with adversity? We try and prepare them to be great on the diamond and in life.

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets us apart is that we’re very authentic and very honest with our members. We’re a small niche group and cater to certain individuals with the same mind frame and think the same for their athletes and families. The last two years since I went full time with my business. There’s been ups and downs trying to balance everything and it’s never easy but one foot at a time and as long as you have a good game plan and you exercise it slowly but surely the business will grow.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is don’t be afraid to grow. Go ahead and tackle that extra responsibility. You’ll figure it out as time goes by. Don’t negate opportunities when they’re in your face. You might be regretting it later.
Whenever you feel there’s something wrong in your society and your community on just in your general space, instead of nagging about it, get involved, contribute, volunteer, and do something about it. That’s the only way things will ever change, that’s our brand’s mindset.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely start off by taking them to Orange County and going to an Angel baseball game after that. Possibly hitting the beach in the evening down by the San Clemente.
Weather permitting you could still go up to Big Bear and go on some fun hikes up there or catch some snow.
And possibly getting a little wild and going down to Lake Forest visiting Bishop Tattoo supply/Vatican studios and ending with a banger tattoo!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank everybody who supported me in this process from making it just a hobby coaching my sons when they were growing up to a full-on business and getting out of the rat race and chasing my dreams! I’d also like to give a huge thank you to Franco Vescovi from Bishop Tattoo Supply my old boss who gave me the courage and sparked the idea in my head that I could do it regardless of where I’m starting now. It’s definitely possible as long as I set my mind to it. Big motivating factor was being around a bunch of business-oriented individuals and just listening and paying attention to how they moved, it gave me a huge insight on how to be successful in the business world.
