Where are you from and how has it impacted you?

Even if you are from the same neighborhood as someone else, you might still be coming from different places. Where you are from is a complicated question and it elicits complicated, but interesting and thought-provoking responses. We’ve shared some of those responses below.

I am originally from South Orange County, California but moved to Australia when I was young. My dad is an Aussie, so it was amazing to be able to live over there. After returning to Southern California, my family and I moved to Hawaii. I have been raised as a beach loving gal and have been blessed with being able to live in such amazing places. I’m from Japan. As a registered nurse in Japan, I have built up a career working in many departments. I am currently in the world of naturopathy. I mainly work as a life coach and therapist to teach people how to use aromatic essential oils as herbs to support the health of the mind and body, and to practice them. I myself have suffered from many illnesses since I was a child, but now I could quit medication I am in the healthiest state by reviewing my daily life, building my body, and responding to natural remedies. I was born in the Lower East Side of New York City during a time when the city was less gentrified and there was a rawness to the area. Music was always a driving force of my life, from the sounds of disco and latin music, to the beginnings of new wave and punk. It has been quite a journey. There are a total of 9 siblings, with me being the youngest. We were refugees in Kuwait and our parents passed away when we were very young, and so we courageously made the decision to relocate to America. With a passion for our cultural heritage and a love for cooking, I embarked on a new journey to open a Mediterranean fusion cuisine.
