We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I love quotes that resonate. I’ve been collecting them on my phone for as long as I can remember. From musicians to philosophers, the simple wisdom of their words can at many times provide us with the affirmations we need to drive ahead in life. Some of my favorites in no particular order:

“Judging a man by his weakest point is like judging the power of the ocean by looking at a single wave.” – Elvis Presley

“Beauty is a short lived tyranny” – Socrates

“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” – Voltaire

“Him who’s not busy being born is busy dying.” – Bob Dylan

“Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing” – Oscar Wilde

“The eyes are useless when the mind is blind.” – Mark Venturini

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Starting out, I created a podcast called Sensory Deprivation where I have on a variety of guests discussing their lives and the difficulties they’ve faced. This led to me posting clips of the podcast on social media, which led to my initial exposure and following. A big part of my podcast has to do with my guests sharing parts of their art that most resonate with them. This led me to share my own space that is meaningful to me, my music room. I began experimenting more with posting and live-streaming, sharing my vintage HiFi and music collection, which has resonated with followers and created a community of music lovers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love our city, it offers so much that few other cities in the world can compare with. Some of my favorite spots are food related, firstly being the amazing Jamaican restaurants we have like Wah Gwaan, Caribbean Gourmet and Country Style Jamaican. The lovely Thai market Bhan Kanom Thai in Thaitown is fantastic for all sorts of sweet and salty treats. Some other favorites are Mama Lu’s Dumpling House and Longo Seafood for great dim sum.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started my podcast Sensory Deprivation with no technical experience or recording equipment whatsoever. I had no industry connections for booking guests or knowledge of production, but knew I could learn. I began reaching out to my ideal guests through Instagram messages, which payed off in time with my initial lineup. With this lineup I was able to reach out to various companies for sponsorships of all sorts. Shure provided me with microphones, headphones and recording software. Dave Danzara of Lost in Time Designs came up with fantastic artwork for the show. Musician Bitapart created fantastic intro music for me and Rewind Audio provided my first analog recording setup. Without any of these individuals and companies, my podcast could never have gotten off the ground, I have them to thank for everything coming together in such a short time. It also provided me with an important lesson, that passion and drive can push a project into reality no matter what the obstacle.
