We had the good fortune of connecting with William Mcclure Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi William, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started thrifting and antiquing when I was in my early 20s. I had my own apartment for the first time at the age of 23 years old in downtown Charleston WV just a half a block from the capitol. There were a few thrift stores in walking distance, and I also loved to visit garage and estate sales. Mostly these items were collected for myself. It wasn’t until the age of 35 that I started dabbling and selling locally and online marketplaces. less than 2 years ago I decided to get serious about selling vintage items online and I love it. So, for me it was a no brainer, it’s something that I really enjoy and brings me a lot of happiness and it’s and it’s super fun.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The art that I sell and create is abstract. It’s uniquely created by using compressed air. The process is the canvas is laid flat the paint is applied and I use the compressed air to manipulate and move the paint around until it becomes a version to my liking. There are many artists that use this technique, but the painting appear wet. With my technique the painting appears more grounded in the foundation of the art work itself. The process itself excites me, it’s always a fun experience to paint and express myself and knowing it can also bring happiness to others.
Like most artists, I have my work displayed in art shows and galleries. I also use the internet for my pieces. This has not been an easy journey, however I love what I do and it’s worth it. The lessons I have learned along the way is advertising- if you don’t get your work out there no one will notice it!
I want the world to know, that no matter your passion, how much it costs, if it’s part of you and your expression then do it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Oceanside; I stay close to home. The first thing I would do is take my guests to the Pier and Seabird resort and then afterward would go to Anita’s Mexican Restaurant. That would conclude day one. Day two, I would take them to Encinitas, where we would go to a mediation garden called The Self- Realization Fellowship Temple and would take them out to eat, to the Encinitas Fish Shop. Day three, the Safari Park, day four would be taking them to Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial Park in LaJolla, where they would an enjoy at 360-degree view of the ocean and mountains in San Diego and to give thanks to our veterans. After that, we would do a picnic, at Kate Sessions Park to enjoy the beautiful views of Mission Bay. On day 5 we would go on a hot air balloon ride early in the morning and relax. Finishing up, on day six, we would take the train from Oceanside to San Diego, and explore Balboa Park, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been fortunate enough to be around a lot of very successful, creative people in my life. It is hard for me to choose one person, group, or organization that I owe this to. I guess one person that sticks out in my life is my friend, Paul, who had the same appreciation and passion as I did for art and vintage items. There are many people to thank for my knowledge of art, handmade items, and vintage items.
