We had the good fortune of connecting with Mackenzie Hudson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mackenzie, what’s your definition for success?
I define ‘success’ as peace and happiness. Success might mean making a lot of money for some people, or it might mean having a lot of time at home with family for others. Personally, success to me means having a career where I can support my passions in life which include family, traveling, and wellness. If I’m able to help people through my work while also having a good quality of life myself, that is how I know I am successful.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my Private Practice for psychotherapy in the summer of 2021. Without any education on how to actually start or build a business, I am proud of myself for figuring it all out! It wasn’t easy, but the new plans I had evolving for my practice kept me motivated and excited. I am now offering Ketamine-Assisted Therapy and will offer other psychedelic-assisted therapies as they become legalized for the treatment of mental health disorder such as PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety. I also learned about other innovative ways to help people through holistic approaches like using yoga and meditation in sessions, as well as EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing) therapy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the beach and I love food, so both of those things are always involved in my itinerary for out of town visitors! I would start with taking my friend (and my dog) to dog beach. If the water was warm enough we would go swimming too. We’d spend a day in OB, walk to the end of the pier, get tacos at either South Beach or Mike’s, and drinks an the rooftop of OB Brewery or The Holding Company. We’d spend another day in La Jolla, walking along the cliffs to see the the sea lions, shopping, and then dinner at George’s at the Cove. One of the nights I would take them to the Top of the Hilton for drinks and views of the harbor and downtown. We’d probably also go on a hike at some point, either Cowel’s or Iron Mountain for 360 views of the city and beyond. Some other honorable mentions would be paddle boarding in mission bay, bike riding the boardwalk in mission beach, and dueling pianos at Shout House.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Shayna Kelleher, she has been a mentor and friend to me over the past 2 years, guiding me in discovering my newest passions!
