We had the good fortune of connecting with Rita Spiegel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rita, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I paint 🎨. I always have. My paintings have energy behind them. Coming from my love of animals and studies of yoga. I’m here to help people create memories. With my pet portraits, I help create special one-of-kind memories of their pets. I paint murals and windows to help businesses Attract clients and promote their brand.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an artist, I specialize in watercolor painting. Pet portraits allows me to help my clients create one-of-kind memories of their pet, that will stay with them forever. Not only am I an artist, but my dog is as well. I’ve taught her to paint bookmarks as well as paintings. And she has sold all across the United States as well as to people living in Belgium and Spain. Not only did she paint, but I have classes where I teach other pet owners how to have their dogs be a Pawcasso. My background as a yoga teacher helps me bring an energy to my paintings. Each painting is blessed with crystals and a meditation. This energetic artistry sets me apart from other artists. Painting since I was a child, I decided in 2019 to pursue my dream of becoming a professional artist. I believe that I have both achieve that in one way, but have more that I’m striving towards. I’m A professional artist, but I still have a day job to help pay most of life‘s expenses. In 2021 and beyond … I’m working towards obtaining regular commissions, murals, window paintings and other artistic ventures to financially sustain life skills as a full-time entrepreneur. The biggest lessons that I have learned and I continue to learn is the business side of art. When you’re in school, you learn about composition, art theory, light and dark, and all the other ways to paint and draw. However no one teaches you the business and marketing side. That’s both the biggest challenge and now I’m finding Learning all of this and much more exciting than I ever I would.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Oceanside, CA. So of course my favorite place to take visitors is the ocean. We have a lovely pier. Perfect for watching surfers and if you were interested, yes fishing too. Within a mile is our harbor. Many boats able to take you out for whale watching. There are many many restaurants along our coast. Parks provide nice grassy areas. They are a favorite place for me to take guests visiting. As a dog mom, it’s great to be able to have a open area for a picnic and to walk my dog. For me most of my guests tend to come with their own dogs so it’s a perfect pet pawty at the park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to recognize all the other pet and dog owners I’ve met throughout the years. You’ve given me inspiration and allowed me the opportunity and honor of painting your dogs portrait.
