We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige and Kyle Rigg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige and Kyle, we’d love to hear about how you met the person you love.
My name is Kyle Rigg and my wife, Paige, and I met in 10th grade at Patrick Henry High School. Well, technically we met and sat next to each other in 8th grade English at Lewis Middle School, but I was way too shy about girls at the time so we hardly spoke. We re-met in Sophomore year when I ditched my ceramics class to go hang out with one of my buddies in the connected room that was teaching Art and lo and behold! Paige was sitting right next to him. She was shy and quiet, but was nice to talk to and would always make me laugh at some silly joke. I liked to bring a ball of clay with me and just kind of fiddle with it as I talked to them. I thought she was pretty cute so one day I made a ring of clay, handed it to her and said, “Here’s a halo to compliment your angelic features.” A couple days later a mutual friend of our told me Paige had asked if I was single and that was it, I tell you! Valentine’s day was coming up in a couple of weeks and I really wanted to do something special for her, but I had to wait. It was agony! After weeks of chatting with Paige on AOL instant messenger and Myspace and continuing to ditch class every few days (don’t tell my parents!) the day was finally here. I wrote basically an essay for her in a card and bought a single rose. I asked her out on a date to the beach and from that point on we were inseparable! It took me months just to hold her hand, but I was in love. Five months after asking her out I was going on a school trip to Mexico that would see me gone for a whole week and I told her I was in love. 5 years later we were engaged. 5 months after that we were married! So many of our Baby Go Round family came to our wedding; both co-workers and customers! We’ll be celebrating 7 years married this July and we couldn’t be happier!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a small, family business that specializes in children’s clothing, toys, accessories, and gear (like strollers, jumperoos, carriers, etc.) We do everything we can to help our community with a cheaper, more renewable option for their infant’s and toddler’s need and also maternity clothing. Everything in our store is by the community, for the community. We buy our inventory from our customers and resell it to those who need. it and a much cheaper price than retail. We are proud to offer these essential items without breaking the bank! We wouldn’t be here if it had not been for our loyal customers who spread word of our business to their friends and family. It’s not easy selling these items with such a low price on their tags! By selling at such a low price, we need to sell a lot of it! Without this word of mouth advertising from our customers, we’d be doomed! No matter how difficult running a business can be, we’ve learned it’s all worth it as the “thank you”s pour in from our community. We want the world to know that Baby Go Round Resale is here for you and always will be!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our favorite part of San Diego is the world famous Zoo! It’s an excellent go-to favorite, but let’s talk about some of (possibly) lesser known favorites. Like Mission Trails! Obviously well-known as well, but we couldn’t help but mention this one. There are some nice, simple loops that are nice on even a warm, San Diego day, but there are also the trails that make you want to say, “Wow! I need to get into better shape.” One of our favorite lesser-known diner type spots is Gus’s Subs in La Mesa. Some of best, cheesiest pizzas and savory sub sandwiches can be found here. You want a delicious iced tea? Gus’s Subs has one of the best with crushed ice so make sure you get a size large! Feeling a little nerdy? Good! TC’s Rockets on Waring Road in Allied Gardens has it all! Trading cards, comics, action figures, Dungeons and Dragons, you name it! The friendlies staff and the best deals! Or if you feel like getting some shopping done Grossmont Center is one of the best malls in San Diego. Not nearly as cramped as other nearby malls, Grossmont offers that outdoor experience complete with all your shopping needs (and wants.)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We have a lot of people to thank for helping us get to where we are. We purchased the business from our childhood friend, Tawny and her family. They gave us the confidence that we could succeed as well as the training and knowledge of the business. Our parents – Bob, Sheila, Desiree, and Tom – are the most supportive parents! And our co-workers at Baby Go Round have been there every step of the way. We are a family and are there for each other through thick and thin.
