We had the good fortune of connecting with Elodie Lilliston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elodie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After working in the corporate world for 10 years, I felt empty, a stranger to myself. I missed the joy of creating, dreaming and being artistic. I knew I couldn’t continue or it would have been the end of me. At a young age, my teachers were telling my parents that my destiny was in the artistic, creative world….because I had too many drawings on my tests! I studied architecture with a passionate interest in interior design. I grew up by the Sea in the South of France where at one year old I was riding the waves on my father’s back. My love for the Ocean was infinite, from playing in the waves, to fishing, diving, surfing….It all led me to travel the world as a semi-professional surfer. Without a doubt, the Ocean is my drug. I can’t live without it, but I also can’t live without creating. That’s when I knew I had to go back to the 2 things I can’t live without….The Ocean and Creating.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an ocean lover, sustainability is AMOURDESEA’s main focus and will remain more than ever. I use USA locally sourced metal, recently working with Argentium silver which is made of 100% recycled silver. I also use non-treated natural Tahitian saltwater pearls sourced from French Polynesia; the only luxury gem created by an ocean living organism!!! These ocean treasures are so unique in so many ways that they are the perfect ocean element for my designs. Being successful is loving what you do. Have you heard, everything made with love tastes so much better. Well this works with anything. Love, persistence, dedication, and obsession while seeing failures as opportunities are keys to success. Running a business isn’t easy. It takes time and can be discouraging. But it’s important to learn how to focus on your mission and what takes you to the top. There is always room for improvement if you love creating your dream journey. I think of my customers as goddesses of the sea! They deserve to shine. I want them to feel peaceful, relaxed, naturally beautiful like after a day spent in the tropics surrounded by crystal clear lagoon waters. Ocean lovers can relate to the ocean intensity and relaxing feelings while wearing their jewelry beautifully. Charming, feminine, and stunning for any occasion. When you buy from an artist, you buy a living piece. A piece that has a story, a soul. A design that has been created and handmade with thoughts, love, and Aloha.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a big fan of the coastal areas. Locally, I would take them to Crystal Cove, the Montage, or Laguna beach. These areas offer the best views, hikes, and natural parks. You often see dolphins, seals, whales, and all kinds of birds!! They’re still protected and nature is abundant. There are so many amazing restaurants and bars/lounges in the area. My list would go like this, breakfast at Rendez-vous, lunch at Flower Child or the Lido (Zinque or Malibu farms) and The Camp for drinks at Ruin Bar and dinner at Seabirds, Gypsy Den, or Habana.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so grateful for all that I learned working in the fashion industry where I worked with International Sales, marketing, product development, etc. But this wasn’t where I needed to be to build a business. I took several silversmithing lessons to acquire the knowledge of working with precious metals. Thanks to that I met many inspiring and talented local artists. I do online tutorials and courses almost every day. They help with jewelry making and business growth development. After 4 years, I’ve found groups of inspiring women business owners. These groups are truly my favorites. It is such a relief to share your experiences with entrepreneurs around the world. I couldn’t do it without their support! My husband believed in me since day one. His support and guidance has been a major part of my success.
